Attention Rookies - Chapter 3

Briefing

Hunters had just returned from their mission in New York. Many of them were undergoing routine post-battle check ups. They had already finished their debriefing and soon enough another team of hunters would go in to further clean up the area.

However, another more pressing issue caused X to call the hunters that had just returned back to the meeting room.
“Just after you returned, reports of a signal appearing in the amazon jungle have been confirmed. We suspect there is a maverick in the area. If this signal is left alone, maverick activity in the area will undoubtedly increase. So please go check it out and report back in.” X stopped speaking and the hunters gathered their things and headed out.

Jungle Hijinxs

Once they had been teleported into the jungle, X opened the communications channel.
“Since this is a jungle mission, you'll have more cover from any enemies that may appear. Use the trees and objects there for cover. But try and stay out of sight as best you can. Don't risk a firefight if you don't have to. The signal is about a mile from your location. I'm sorry we couldn't warp you closer but there was a teleportation jamming field set up. Good luck.”

With that the hunters began to head forward, further into the dense jungle. A few of the hunters decided to split up to cover more ground. With that they left and headed off in another direction while the main force kept going forward. It wasn't long before the main force felt the ground rumble beneath their feet. About 60 feet away, a small hole burst open and a swarm of small bee-like mechaniloids rushed out. It wasn't long before the bee mechaniloids had located the hunters. “We got trouble” called one of the hunters and they quickly engaged the bees. The bees took aim and fired shots, but they were wild and inaccurate. Most of their shots hit trees or ground. Meanwhile the hunters faired much better, using their more powerful weapons much more accurately to shoot down the mechaniloids without too much trouble. However the sheer number of the bee mechaniloids was proving problematic. For each one they shot down another two seemed to take it's place.
“How many of them are there?”
“Where are they coming from?” Another asked.
“Hold on. I'll see if I can get a fix on them. Just cover me.” One hunter (Zo) stated, he paused and put his weapon away while he focused on searching for the source of the bees. Several seconds later he proclaimed:
“They're coming from 60 feet that way” he stated while he pointed in a direction. Meanwhile, another hunter (Jet) had gone airborne and spotted the hole they were coming from. He called it's position out along with:
“That's why HQ couldn't locate it exactly.”
With the exact direction known the hunters took off toward the hole, dodging the bee's fire and returning with their own.
“We won't be able to do anything if we don't get rid of these bees.” One hunter called.
“Let's use our Explosion Crash all at once to take them out at the source.” Another replied.

Once at the hole, they encircled it and each fired a blast of their Explosion Crash over the hole. Their blasts met and amplified the power causing a significantly larger boom. The bee mechaniloids in the area crashed to the ground, the ones inside fell. When the last one crashed into the ground, spreading metal, oil and broken circuits over the ground the hunters looked down inside. “We have to go down there…” One stated.

Blotting out the sun

When the hunters had gathered in the bottom of the hole in the ground, they found it was actually a rather spacious tunnel. It wasn't long before they were attacked again. This time though the maverick leader, Solarion Vineyard was the one launching the attack.

“I hope you've come to terms with your death” Solarion stated, her 5'4” frame unwinding so that she was over 10 feet tall. She began by stringing one hunter up, though her arm was quickly cut away. It regenerated pretty quickly.

After several more failed attempts to do damage one of the hunters noticed that Solarion always moved into the light in order to regenerate her damage away.
“She's solar powered… I'm going to close the hole in the roof. Stand away from the hole.” he called. Others moved away from the hole and he fired an Explosion Crash into the ceiling, causing it to collapse down and in, sealing the tunnel off from outside and blotting out the light.

With the light blocked off, the hunters continued to fight. This time they successfully bombarded Solarion with more damage (especially fire) than she could handle. One of the hunters grabbed the weapon module and they acquired the Solar Lash weapon.

Over the comm they heard: “Well done, rookies” started Zero.
“Now let's get you back to base for some recoop time. I'm sending a shuttle to pick you up. Until it arrives, guard that area. We can't teleport you from your current location, nor can we teleport to that area, so sit tight for now. A new squad is on the way.” Once Zero finished speaking the comm fizzled out and the hunters were left in the silence of the room. After 10 minutes a low rumble told them they weren't alone anymore.

As another rumble shakes the foundation of the tunnel, the hunters edge closer to the door at the far end of the tunnel, away from where they had entered. A final rumble happened and the door fell off the hinges. A shadow quickly darted past the hunters and the hunters readied all their weapons as they prepared for battle once again. Just as they expected the enemy to finally reveal themselves, Axl popped out. “Hey guys” he shouted cheerfully with a huge grin on his face, he then opened his eyes to see many weapons glaring at him. “You don't have to be so serious all the time” he said with a smirk, finally one of the hunters asked the crucial question… “Axl what are you doing here?”

Axl pondered for a second then stated: “Zero asked me to come get you guys and let you know the shuttle is ready. We can leave now.” Everyone relaxed and got ready to board the shuttle back to base.

Within the hour everyone was back at base. X and Zero were no where to be found so instead Signas was standing at the helm of the group. Without much pause he quickly began: “Alright hunters, mission complete. That base was secured and our team of operatives are investigating the disturbances down there. As some of you already know we have received a large shipment of supplies from Hunter HQ. This includes subtanks, some minor weapon upgrades, and a few other interesting trinkets. Hunter HQ has also sent word along of new armors for you which will be ready in a few days. These are exactly like the ones you have now except they are more advanced and contain some new abilities, which will be explained at a later time. As for now you need some rest relaxation. So go and have some time of for a while. When you get back I will have a mission ready for you.” Once signas finished his speech the hunters turned and left the command room, back into the main hall of the space station Aurora.

Behind the Scenes

This was originally a two part mission with the previous chapter. Though I divided it up for story purposes.

This is also the last mission that Lixi is an active part of.
