X-Hunters

6 months after the fall of Sigma (December 2119), X had become a full fledged Maverick Hunter. He was sent to eliminate a group of mavericks holed up at an abandoned mechaniloid factory on the outskirts of a desert region. As he approached the building with his partner, they came under heavy fire. Only X managed to make it to the facility. Once inside X discovered the factory was in full production. He made his way to the basement where a large energy signature was residing. One of the mechaniloids that were being manufactured in the building had activated. X disabled the mechaniloid quickly. The control centre for the factory was also located in the basement. Using it X disabled the whole facility until more Hunters could arrive. Though no further maverick signals were located.

Unbeknownst to X, he was being watched the whole time. The reploids watching him remarked to each other at his speed and power as he defeated the mechaniloid.

After he returned to base, attacks began to occur. X was quickly dispatched again to eliminate the threats.

After X returned to base after defeating the second maverick general his briefing with Dr. Cain was interrupted. The reploids who had been watching X wanted to talk. Calling themselves the X-hunters they had a message… “X. We have Zero's parts. We'll be waiting for you. Come fight us and collect his parts if you can.” they claimed. Though they knew that they could only slow him down a bit, but that they had to buy as much time as they could.

Aghast, X asked Dr. Cain if it would be possible to resurrect Zero. Dr. Cain responded that so long as the control chip was undamaged that Zero could be rebuilt.

Filled with hope, X charged forth to stop the remaining 6 mavericks and reclaim Zero's parts.

After X managed to defeat the 3rd X-hunter and reclaim the last of Zero's parts. He returned to Dr. Cain with the parts in tow. Dr. Cain indicated he would get right to work restoring Zero but that it would take some time. But that in the meantime, the X-hunter's base had been discovered… in the Arctic.

Knowing it was a trap, X went anyway to stop these new mavericks from causing more problems.

X confronted the defeated X-hunters again and killed them once and for all. Then Sigma, alive and in a new body, revealed himself as the mastermind behind the whole thing. He gloated that he had also brought the real Zero and that X would never be able to defeat him. Just when the fight between X and 'Zero' was just about to begin, the actual Zero crashed through the gate and destroyed Sigma's fake. Sigma claimed to know Zero's secret, but instead fled shortly after the real Zero showed up. “Go on. Get Sigma, I'll take out the mainframe and bring this base down.” Zero claimed.

Inspired by Zero's words, X took off after Sigma and cornered him in the lower section of the base. Once again, X killed Sigma's body. But Sigma quickly reappears, this time his second form is a projection generated by the mainframe computer of the base. X manages to defeat the representation of Sigma, but realised that Sigma would return…
