Maverick Hunters

Maverick Hunters are a paramilitary group funded and controlled by the United Nations which gives them operational jurisdiction in every nation in the world. They have bases in every nation, though the Headquarters is located in Able city.

The exact size of the Maverick Hunters has fluctuated greatly over the years from having relatively few at the outset (when it was only based in Able City) to a hundred-thousand hunters globally.

Objective

The Hunters primary objective is to police the reploid population across the world. They exist to protect citizens from rogue reploids (Mavericks). Though they are also often called in for damage and disaster relief, protection of personnel (high ranking government, corporate and important witnesses in trials). They also investigate reports of maverick activity, missing persons and some crimes. They don't handle cases of drugs or most human crimes, but they can make arrests if the human possess a threat to others/themselves/hunter personnel. (This sometimes causes hardships and troubles with human law enforcement and undercover stings.)

Hierarchy

Converse to mavericks, Hunters are organized extremely well. At the highest point is the leader. The first leader (and creator of the Maverick Hunters) was Dr. Cain, though he later retired and the position was taken up by Signas. Beyond that each squad generally has it's own leader who is in charge of their group. (They are also responsible for filing all incident reports/paperwork/evidence to the higher ups.) Some squads have no leader listed but they have someone else handle their paperwork (sometimes they get their operator to do it).

Each squad typically has it's own internal hierarchy decided by the leader. But the squads themselves do not have a strict structured hierarchy. (Certain squads are still given more respect/honour though because of the feats they have achieved. EX- Squad 0 and 17 being prominent examples. )

Squads

Hunters typically function in groups (the exact size of the group varies with each mission, sometimes only a pair of hunters up to the entire squad). There are numerous squads and many of them have their own distinct function or role within the Hunters. Some of the known squads include:

# Name Leader Purpose
0 Special 0 Zero A special tasks group for dangerous assignments only.
1 Vanguard Signas A group specifically created to guard the Hunter leader from threats. Very rarely seen, so is often considered a myth
2 - None This unit is the levels of management below Signas, they handle all the day to day workings of the Hunters and keep Signas informed of the vitals.
3 Navigators Alia This unit is comprised of all the navigators for each of the teams on duty. Each team has their own navigator independent of the others. This navigator reports to Signas, or his high-level management. While this unit does have combat training, they do not often engage in field combat due to their services being much more valuable backing up the hunters from the computers.
4 Overland None Listed This unit was in charge of a desert outpost.
6 Marine None Listed This unit was specifically charged with aquatic combat.
7 Air Cavalry None Listed This unit's core function was to provide aerial backup of primary strike forces.
8 Armoured None Listed A unit comprised only of hunters wearing the heaviest of armours, they are typically a defender or first in to protect the others.
9 Rangers None Listed A unit specifically for woodland area combat.
10 Mountain Medic None Listed Handles the field medics. This unit is charged with handling the in field care of injured hunters, they also are charged with the retrieval of injured hunters from the field. As such they are combat trained and have some level of medical ability.
11 Sky Angels None Listed These hunters are the aerial force responsible for the most daring of aerial missions, taking them to extremes. They are infamous for their highspeed attacks against maverick bases. (All members must be able to fly atleast mach 1.)
13 Polar None Listed A group comprised solely for ice technique users for fighting in polar regions.
14 Grapple None Listed A group comprised of close quarter combat specialists who use hand to hand based techniques only.
15 Hellhounds Big Dog This group is designated to hunt down rogue members of the Hunters, they possess higher than normal firepower and a greater degree of training than all but the top teams (Units 0,1,17).
17 Elite X This is X's personal squad. Originally create by Sigma, lead by Zero after Sigma's defection before X took over.
18 Lightning Logistics None Listed The intelligence division that handles all cyber activity - Scours the net for information, cracks security on retrieved parts and handles all of the hunter base internet protection. This unit is non-combat and has no real fighting training, but in order to join this team an applicant must possess a superior mind. Typically reports to the Navigators.
19 Field Mice None Listed The in field scouts - This unit is the one that primarily investigates all logistic's reports of maverick activity. Members of this unit are trained with superior stealth tactics so they can easily infiltrate areas under heavy maverick supervision. Though this unit is highly trained, casualties of this unit are fairly high. Each member of this unit is assigned several unconventional items… A beam dagger, an emp/suicide chip installed in their head, and a cloaking field generator to help mask their presence.
25 Arctic Vasas This unit is designed for the protection and exploration in cold environments. Soldiers in this squad are not necessarily ice users themselves, but they must have a tolerance against ice to withstand the freezing climates they work in. Every member of this unit is well versed in arctic warfare tactics, camouflage, scouting and tracking to be the best they can be in the frozen environments.
26 Burn Unit None Listed This team is designed for combat in extremely high temperatures, often using flame based techniques.
27 Dune Devils None Listed This team is composed of members who are skilled at fighting in high heat and desert conditions. They often use ground based techniques.
28 Shock Troops None Listed A team composed solely of Electricity based users.
29 Wave Breakers None Listed This team is comprised purely of water technique users.
30 Air Riders None Listed This team is made of users who excel at wind/storm based moves. Users here don't necessarily have to fly, but need to be adept at wind moves.
31 Light Bulb None Listed This team is comprised of light energy technique users.
32 Shadow Walker None Listed Composed only of Hunters who specialise in dark energy techniques. This team tends to get an unfair rap for it, treated and misjudged for it.
33 Missile Masters None Listed A team devoted to explosive weapon warfare. They have a high mastery of explosive weapons and each member is capable of launching some form of explosive.
34 Venom None Listed A team of users who can inject their adversaries with viruses and other forms of bugs. Another team that gets a bad rap for using tactics similar to the Maverick Virus.
60 Alpha Response None Listed This team is made up of Hunters from various other teams to function as a first response team. They have a range of different individuals so they can easily adapt to any situation they encounter.
66 Iron Knights None Listed This is a team comprised entirely of rookies fresh from basic training.
68 Eagle Express None Listed Provides high speed item/package deliveries to people in the field, carries a strong defensive shield/armor and must be exceptionally quick to join this team. Is trained for light combat with sabers or busters as primary weapons.
78 EX-Tech None Listed These are the gutsy hunters that put each weapon through it's paces, ensuring it is able to handle the rigours of combat and can perform under all concievable circumstances. While they are combat trained, they do not often engage in combat due to their expertise in testing the weapons. But if necessary they can be diverted from weapon testing to field duty. (Though when doing so they oft wield the experimental weapons that have passed the test but have yet to see active combat.)
82 Academy None Listed This unit is consistently concerned with producing the best possible hunters. They constantly revise and review the training regimes to produce the optimal hunters. As such they manage the specialty training units, basic training units and advanced training units.
89 Hell's Fury Colonel Raykan A special forces hunter team for high priority missions.
92 Air Drop None Listed This team pilots cargo planes/jets/helicopters for dropping or retrieving troops in places where teleporting is not possible/feasible. They also are tasked with delivering personnel for retrieving any technology.
93 Chasers None Listed This squad specialises in land chaser combat and pursuit of fleeing mavericks on chasers. They have specially augmented chasers for high performance.
94 Ride Suits Char This squad is primarily for bringing Robot Rides into conflicts.
95 Choppers None Listed A squad that flies attack helicopters into areas.
96 Fast Movers None Listed A squad that pilots hypersonic aircraft into battles. They can support flight units or bombard targets.
97 Heavy Armour None Listed A squad that pilots tanks into larger ground battles.
98 RailGunners None Listed A long range weapons group based around conventional artillery.
99 Great One None Listed A tactical heavy weapons group, designed for long range bombardment with restricted weapons… Primarily nuclear. Though they are a very small squad and are often called on last.

Admission Qualifications

In order to join the Maverick Hunters, prospective candidates must not have a criminal record (or be wanted or involved in other cases). In rare cases, if a perpetrator of a lesser offense (EX- stealing) is caught red handed and are co-operative, they can join the hunters to repay society for the crimes they have committed instead of being locked up. (Typically these hunters are given restricted access to the Hunter base sections and monitored closely. They also aren't given the truly important missions either.)

Physically, candidates of all types are accepted and are given roles to match their physique. Though mental checks are done to ensure that a hunter's cognitive skills are good enough to understand and follow orders. (Though in desperate times, the cognitive skill requirement may be relaxed to enable more to join that might otherwise not have passed.)

Candidates do not need to have prior military training of any kind. Though any specialized training they've received for using their own capabilities can greatly influence decisions to accept a candidate.

Candidates do not need to have their own combat armour because the hunters provide armour. (Though selected candidates can opt to use their own if they wish. Or they can opt to have their base armour modified to Hunter specifications.)

Technology

Being funded by the UN means they are given a sizable budget to spend. They use a large portion of the budget to outfit their hunters with state of the art technology. (Most of which is developed in house by Hunter Technicians. Though they occasionally contract outside companies to create new tech for them.)

They have created many useful weapons and armours to protect themselves. Some of which had the designs stolen/leaked or otherwise were reverse engineered into Maverick hands. But the Hunters typically remain ever on the edge of technology thanks to their R&D teams.

History

The Maverick Hunters were originally founded by Dr. Cain early on after his discovery and replication of Megaman X. Soon after the first Maverick went rogue, Dr. Cain realised how big a problem it would be if more turned this way. So he founded the Hunters and began recruiting. He also continued to build specialised reploids for the purpose of becoming hunters. He built Sigma for the purpose of being a powerful maverick hunter with a defense that would prevent him from becoming a maverick. Sigma eventually turned maverick though and soon became the greatest maverick threat of all.
