Reploids

Reploids are an advanced species of machines. They were based off the designs of Megaman X, the last creation of Dr. Light. The very first reploid ever created is unknown, though it was designed by Dr. Cain.

Reploid Physiology

Reploids are composed of many layers of systems co-operating together… A lot like a human body. Though in some regards reploids are simpler (they don't require food sustenance and aren't affected by bacteria, fungi or biologic viruses so they don't have systems to deal with those) in other regards they are more advanced (possessing sharper senses).

Control Chip

Their primary system is their Control Chip (this is a combination of their CPU and hard drive/storage unit for memory). It contains their personality and ability to control their body. It is usually located in the head of the reploid, though this isn't always the case. It uses the most power of any of the systems in a reploid's body (due to high processing power and need for cooling.) It is also usually the best protected component in the body (often with several thick pieces of metal protecting it and anti-shock/EMP protection). A reploid can always be rebuilt if the body is destroyed provided that the control chip remains intact.

Senses

Each reploid has a sensor suite containing most of the traditional human senses. Though many of them are enhanced in some fashion or another.

  • Vision is often far superior to that of a human, sometimes even equipped with Night Vision or Thermal Imaging.
  • Smell is often enhanced, but not usually to canine levels.
  • Hearing is improved, most reploids are capable of focusing their hearing to hear conversations up to 15-20 feet away with no problem.
  • Taste is usually not present…
  • Touch is present in varying levels, depending on the reploid's exterior covering. Though it can be switched off if the reploid needs to. (Most combat reploids turn this sense off if they know they're going to get injured.)

Many reploids elect to equip themselves (if they aren't already equipped with) a stomach like component. This allows them to eat and enjoy the taste of food just like a human, though the food they consume gets channeled into their Microfusion tanks to be burned as fuel there (reducing their energy requirements.) However, anything they consume does not enter their vital fluid so it never reaches their control chip. (Even if it did reach the control chip, it wouldn't do anything because the control chip wouldn't absorb it.) Meaning if they consume alcohol they cannot get drunk. Though the taste may cause them to get sick instead…

Some reploids also possess a system a lot like lungs that is used for cooling. This allows a reploid to “breathe” cold air in, and “exhale” the warmer air. This gives the illusion that reploids are breathing. It should be noted that reploids do not actually need to breathe and that they can turn this system off to rely on their other cooling systems. (This allows reploids to submerge themselves in water and stay underwater for long periods of time.)

Power system

To power their bodies, most reploids make use of an advanced microfusion generator that can produce tremendous power… Enough to allow a Reploid to live a very long time (with proper maintenance) on a single fuel cell. Though combat conditions and use of specialty modules may take an additional toll on power supplies.

Muscles

Reploid muscles are primarily either:

  • servos (large, heavy motors that give significant strength at the cost of using more power);
  • Hydraulics (using reploid vital-fluid in tubes to push pistons, uses less power but slightly slower), or:
  • electro-constrictive metals that contract when a current is passed through (similar to human tendons, except significantly stronger. Though not as strong/fast as other options).

Each option has it's own benefits and drawbacks, and there are many different variations between each type.

Vital Fluid

Each reploid also has a reservoir of a special fluid, aptly titled Vital-fluid. This fluid serves several functions in the body:

  • Cooling (the vital fluid is pumped throughout the body, absorbing head to be dispersed. Particularly away from the Control chip.)
  • Lubrication (reduces the friction at the joints to allow a reploid to move easier, thus using less power to move.)
  • Injury repair (the vital fluid usually carries a series of nanites which interact with the body to enact minor repairs in the body. This natural repair system can be augmented by Sub-tanks.)

Unfortunately, due to the lubricating nature of the vital fluid it can be flammable. So it's best to keep away from open flames. There are special variants of vital fluid which are flame retardant… but they are extremely expensive and not compatible with most reploid systems (they have to have specialized systems to be able to handle this fluid.)

This is very much like a Human's blood.

Skeleton

The skeleton of a reploid is composed of extremely dense/durable metal (easily capable of withstanding forces that would pulverize human bone). It forms the base that all the other systems mount to. For the most part the skeleton of a humanoid reploid mimics that of a human. There is a sturdy set of metal “bones” that form a ribcage and protect the reploid's most vital components (Microfusion generator, vital fluid pump, cooling system.) Each reploid also has a series of accessory bays built onto the skeleton. These bays are typically located in the arms and legs, though depending on the type of reploid it can be located in other spots too.

Accessory Bays

Many reploids also have specialty systems that are designed specifically for them. These systems are typically modular in nature (thus they fit into a standard accessory bay slot) and range from weapons to sensors to performance enhancers.

Flesh/Armour

Finally to cover their bodies, most reploids have 2 layers… The first layer is a thin flesh like covering composed of a series of sensors, interwoven into a synthetic silicon like polymer, that give a reploid the sense of touch. This flesh gives the reploid an extremely human like appearance (Hospitals also use this for skin grafts since it blends so well with human flesh). As a by product of the cooling system, this flesh also gets warmed to the approximate human temperature.

The second layer varies significantly depending on reploid use. It is typically either a standard bodysuit with armored components or a heavy metal exoskeleton. The armor/exterior wear depends greatly on the function that the reploid is going to fulfill. (Nurse type reploids generally won't need heavy armor so they aren't fitted with it.)

Physical Capabilities

Reploids, being machines, are capable of feats of strength far superior to a standard human. Most reploids are capable of lifting weight into the tons range (at least 2000 lbs). Even child reploids can surpass the strength of an adult human with ease. (Though they may not be able to lift multiple tons like a larger reploid.)

Reploids are also usually quicker than humans too, partly due to their mechanical bodies. (Though as a given, not every reploid is always faster than every human. There are some reploids which are slower.)

Furthermore each individual reploid may have specific powers or capabilities granted to them through custom made modules. For example, Maverick Hunters often take the weapon modules of defeated mavericks to use against other mavericks. Though there are some universal skills…

Universal skills

Nearly every reploid has the capability for these skills in addition to any others they have. (Since they're the default for every reploid they aren't counted for the reploid's skills.)

Self-Destruct

By overloading their main power source the reploid will explode in a powerful blast. The blast is extremely powerful at close range, but loses it's effectiveness against other reploids or armored targets after more than a few feet of distance. However, despite the amount of damage it does, it usually kills the reploid invoking this power. There have been a few survivors, but not many… So despite this being a skill reploids have built right in not many actually want to use it.

Dash

By shooting a burst of energy from their boots, the reploid can propel themselves forward very quickly. It's useful as an evasive tactic and can help to cover short distances quickly. However, after use the dash requires a short period of time before it can be used again. This is especially common on combat reploids (like Hunters), though even civilian ones still often have this built into them.

Variable Weapon System

Most reploids come stock with the Variable Weapon System to allow them to quickly and easily adapt weapons and tools for their use.

Mental Abilities

Being machines, reploids are capable of extremely fast thinking. They are able to process data thousands of times faster than the human brain thanks to their CPUs. This in turn also gives them heightened reflexes and reaction times. Reploids can easily store and remember things for a fairly long time. Though like humans, they can forget over time if a memory isn't accessed. (Memories purged to make room for other/newer ones.)

It's also worth noting that reploids cannot easily be programmed like machines. They have the freedom to choose hardwired into them. So most orders attempted to be forced on them can be rejected.

Evolution

Like living organisms, Reploids can also “evolve”. This is because every reploid created is created with a limiter in place. This limiter is to prevent reploids from going berserk with their full capability right from the start. (Thus allowing maverick hunters an edge over any newly created reploid that goes maverick.)

Reploids then evolve by gaining experience from being alive and working, fighting or fulfilling whatever role their skills were meant for. For example, a reploid designed to fight will become more powerful the more combat it actively participates in. Through this method they learn to use their body and more potential is unlocked.

Most reploids do have a point of peak evolution, at which point they won't improve any more on their own. (This varies for each reploid.)

In Society

Reploids are a classification of people, much like Humans. There are several types of reploids…

  • Humanoid - These are reploids which appear like humans, except often wearing armour.
  • Mutos - These are reploids that look more beasts or plants like in nature. EX- A Hummingbird or a Rose.
  • Mythos - These are reploids which are based off classical mythologies… EX- Angels or Centaurs.

Reploids also divide themselves into several groups depending on their stance on Humans.

  • Unaffiliated - These are reploids who have no qualms one way or another about humans, but may not want to get involved in the maverick wars.
  • Hunter - These are the reploids who defend humans against those who reploids rebel or break the laws of society.
  • Maverick - These are reploids who either regard humans as worthless so they try to kill them or otherwise break the laws of society.

Beyond the above distinction Reploids occupy all the various levels in society, much like their human counterparts.
