The year was 22XX, Sigma was defeated for the 12th time already. Even though the 8th was supposedly the final time, it turned out it wasn't. It's been over 2 years since Sigma was defeated without his return, but the Hunters haven't breathed a sigh of relief yet. The Maverick wars rage ever onward. Because the fight continues, the Hunters have opened registrations and put out the call for more to join. A half dozen would be Hunters answer the call.

Hunter HQ wastes no time in getting the new Hunters ready for the battles ahead. A grizzled older reploid begins training them first by evaluating their current capabilities. After a quick assessment of their natural powers he hands out the standard Hunter issue weapons (Busters, Sabres or Knuckles) for the new Hunters to use. The day progressed quickly and the new Hunters retired to their rooms quickly after the day's training. The next few days passed equally as quickly with even more training to be done. From basic tactics, use of communication lines, advanced tactics, a martial art or two, vehicle handling, security clearance codes among many more topics were covered.

In the dead of night, an alarm blared to life to shake the new hunters from a sleeping stupor. The HQ was under attack! Mavericks poured into the base. Hunters scrambled to get their weapons and take up defensive positions while the teams that were already on watch hurried outside to engage the present forces. In the midst of the chaos, the rookie hunters hurried outside to join the fight. The chaos of the streets was unreal for them. Weapons fire, the live kind unlike those found in the training simulator was actually happening. They hurriedly engaged the enemy too, once they overcame their shock.

Tall walking mechaniloids fired powerful energy blasts into the building. It's reinforcement held, but the more shots fired the more damage became visible. The rookies were tasked with bringing down one of the walkers first by taking out the legs. Using teamwork they toppled the walker and crushed several mavericks underneath it. But even with the walker down, more maverick forces were pouring into the area. No one had time to question where these forces were coming from, let alone how they launched an assault so quickly.

A sudden explosion echoed throughout the battlefield as the doors of the Maverick Hunter HQ were ripped off their hinges, flung outward, by a massive blast of energy. The doors caught a few unlucky mavericks and crushed them to pieces. In the dim light of the morning, inside the doorway stood X and Zero. Having just returned from another mission to find their home under attack. They lead a new charge of hunters into battle, comprised of fresh hunters and hunters who had been battling these mavericks before. The tides of the battle quickly changed, the additional hunters mowed the mavericks down. Soon enough the maverick leader called for a retreat of his forces.

While the mavericks fled, the damage had been done. The Hunter HQ was mostly ruined. It would be weeks before the Hunters could inhabit it. It also had brought a morale drop among the hunters that they had been “caught with their pants down” in protecting their own home. To add additional mystery though, while the Hunters surveyed the battlefield they began to note the presence of a strange blue fluid… Leaking from the destroyed maverick's bodies. Being careful not to touch it, they collected samples to analyse later.
